Did basic course in Mountaineering at NIM (UTTARANCHAL).

Under the guidance of Surendra Shelke, Anand started preparing himself by attending the necessary Courses required for climbing Mt. Everest. As he was physically very weak, he prepared himself by climbing the Sinhagad fort of Pune where he went every week. Even though the fee of the Mountaineering Course was very less, he had to pledge the ornaments of his mother to pay for it.

Despite opposition from the members of his family, Anand joined Nehru Institute of Mountaineering at Uttarkashi in Uttaranchal where he learnt many things. Due to several hardships and obstacles encountered during the length of the Course, he once even decided to return. However, his mother told him over the phone, “I have faith in my milk. It cannot be so vulnerable.” In future whenever he thought of retreating, he remembered those words of hers. During the Course Anand developed a friendship with an American named Steve. Anand believed that ‘Everything that came to pass had some reason’ and there was some reason for the development of their friendship. Anand had a lot of faith in Philosophy, “When you want something, the entire universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
